A common question about the potent antioxidant curcumin found in turmeric is, can I get enough this plant chemical to have a health effect just from the spice turmeric? Just how much wholesale l-carnitine this potent antioxidant bulk methylsulfonylmethane msm there in turmeric?
And why would anyone ask these questions? Just consider what this natural product can do for high cholesterol:
A study designed to determine whether curcumin could be safely administered to people who are sick, two Indian researchers gave 500 mg of the turmeric-derived natural product every day to 10 healthy volunteers every day for seven days. The test subject volunteers did not get sick, but they also showed an astonishing lowering of cholesterol.
In just seven days, there was a 29 per cent increase in the "good" HDL cholesterol, a 12 per cent decrease in total cholesterol (which means there was roughly a 34 per cent decrease in LDL cholesterol, which is not measured directly), and a 33 per cent decrease in lipid peroxides?
Ayurvedic medicine has taught for centuries that you can get a direct health benefit from turmeric, but Ayurvedic medicine never uses turmeric by itself. Modern herbal medicine, natural dmae-bitartrate the other hand, recommends the curcuminoids derived from turmeric by themselves, and usually recommends a single supplement with relatively few other natural products.
To get a 500 mg dose of curcumin, you need to consume a full ounce (28 g) of turmeric. Turmeric is only about 2 per cent active ingredients.
That's a lot. And you'd need to consume it every day.
Most people find it much easier to use supplements. Remember, if the supplement is labeled as containing curcuminoids and tumeric, only 2 per cent of the weight of the turmeric consists of the ingredient you are looking for.
